This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst continuing to be two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowance and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
The role will involve the creation and delivery of command training in Firearms command and incident command. This training will be delivered across Surrey & Sussex. The post holder will be involved in the delivery of mandated training to Operational Firearms Commanders, Initial and Cadre Tactical Firearms Commanders, Strategic Firearms Commanders, Post Incident Managers and Firearms Tactical Advisors. In addition to Critical Incident Managers and Divisional Incident Commanders.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the creation, delivery and coordination of a wide variety of command training across the two forces, within a supportive team. The post holder will need to be computer literate and able to accurately record training delivered so that the force can account for its training delivery. All of the above is in the context of force policy and College of Policing National Police Firearms Training Curriculum guidelines together with the Authorised Professional Practice – Armed Policing. To support the Post Incident Procedure in the event of a police shooting or other incident subject of potential investigation by or for an independent investigative authority.
Skills & Experience
It is essential for candidates to be able to demonstrate occupational and operational competence within the last three years in the role of one of the following; tactical firearms commander or strategic firearms commander, having been accredited to the college of policing standard and maintained their mandatory refresher training. A full driving licence is essential. A training qualification is desirable; if the successful candidate does not have a training qualification, then the successful candidate must achieve level 3 AET qualification within 12 months. Accreditation as a post incident manager is desirable.
