Citizens in Policing is the national term used to describe volunteers within policing. The scope of volunteers’ support Sussex Police is growing, we have more than 400 volunteers supporting our police force in different ways – Specials Constables, Police Support Volunteers and Volunteer Police Cadets and Cadet Leaders.
As the volunteer programme increases in terms of numbers of volunteers and volunteering opportunities, we are now looking to recruit a volunteer to support with administration support.
The Role
We are looking for a volunteer to support the Citizens in Policing Manager and Cadet Co-ordinator in their roles by assisting with admin roles, including the regular production of newsletters to keep our volunteer family up to date.
Key Responsibilities
1. Produce a monthly newsletter for the Special Constabulary and a quarterly newsletter (although this might become more frequent) for the Police Support Volunteers.
2. Managing Police Support Volunteer hours spreadsheets recording volunteering hours.
3. Liaising with volunteers, line managers and partners for case studies for social media, intranet and press releases.
4. Responding to the volunteer inbox.
5. Producing Sussex volunteering documents.
6. Support with the recruitment process of Police Support Volunteers.
7. Supporting with DutySheet (communication tool) for Police Support Volunteers and Special Constabulary.
8. Support the Cadet Coordinator.
9. Prepare recognition tasks such preparing letters to volunteers and long service certificates/pins.
10. Assisting in the administration of team events.
11. Attend community engagement events to assist in the publicity of the police Support Volunteer role.
Skills & Experience
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• IT Skills, including Microsoft packages inc excel, internet, mail merge
• Experience of keeping manual and computerised records and inputting/retrieving information.
• Experience of producing newsletters and publications would be desirable.
