The Role & Key Responsibilities

To achieve this ambition, we are looking for specialist case workers to join Checkpoint, the county’s out of court disposal scheme.
This is a central role in our Checkpoint team and we need enthusiastic individuals to provide a customer focused service that responds to policing and crime investigations by building positive, collaborative relationships with offenders, police colleagues and criminal justice partners.
We are looking for motivated individuals, who can use their own initiative to proactively work with adult offenders in delivering targeted interventions forming part of an out of court disposal.

The role is based at Guildford Police Station.
To support the force’s commitment to provide an agile and flexible workforce, you will have the opportunity to work flexibly where appropriate.
You will be provided training for the role including our computing systems and databases, as well as, trauma informed practices, restorative justice and the range of interventions currently used to support your competency in the role.
The case worker/Navigator role is key to the success of the Surrey Checkpoint; engagement with offenders, victims, policing colleagues and key partner services to address offending behaviour and vulnerabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Meeting offenders to carry out a needs assessment to identify reasons for offending.
- Contacting victims of crime to ascertain what they need to ‘make it right’ while maintaining and promoting victim welfare and satisfaction as part of the Checkpoint process, adhering to the victim’s code.
- Working with offenders to identify their complex needs such as drug and/or drink addiction and mental health issues.
- Building individual SMART agreements; addressing the complex needs of the offender and victim.
- You will work with the offender supporting them through the agreement to a successful conclusion.
- Creatively identifying, using and maintaining local interventions with partner services which will assist offender agreements, including community reparation opportunities.
- Managing a number of cases with adults whom are subject of the Out of Court agreements; following the; Restorative Justice principles, such as victim/offender conferences, mediation and reparation activities.
- Identifying and monitoring safeguarding matters when working with vulnerable adults and making appropriate referrals when necessary.
- Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with appropriate local partner services and policing colleagues. Completing, updating and maintaining Police databases in line with national and local policies.
- Being a local point of contact and representing Checkpoint scheme within multiagency meetings and policing environments. Supporting any additional training for new personnel.
