Division / Department - Forcewide Grade - Grade F Status - Full Time Contract Type - Permanent Salary Grade Range - £25,082 - £29,087 Working Hours - 36.0 Hours per Week The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
Surrey Police has launched an exciting new scheme called Checkpoint, to deliver targeted interventions to help offenders from re offending. You will be a trained Navigator (caseworker) responsible for working through targeted interventions with adult offenders as part an agreement leading to an out of court disposals.
Key Responsibilities
You will meet offenders and carry out a needs assessments for adults to identify the reasons for offending.
You will contact victims of crime and ascertain what they need to ‘make it right’. To maintain and promote victim welfare and satisfaction as part of the Checkpoint process, adhering to the victim’s code.
You will work with offenders with complex needs and be able to identify those complex needs such as drug, drink addiction, mental health issues
You will build individual SMART agreements targeting the needs of the offender and victim. You will work with the offender supporting them through the agreement to a successful conclusion
To identify and use local interventions with imagination to tailor agreements, including community reparation opportunities.
To case manage adults subject of a Checkpoint following RJ principles, such as victim/offender conferences, mediation and reparation activity.
To identify and monitor matters of a safeguarding nature vulnerable adults and make appropriate referrals as necessary.
To establish and maintain good working relationships with appropriate local partners.
Skills & Experience
You will have
- Experience of dealing with adults with complex needs especially drink drugs and mental health and trauma.
- An understanding of the principles of restorative justice.
- An understanding of the victims code.
- Experience in partnership working
- A commitment to ongoing professional development in, and to be a champion of, restorative practice.
- High levels of interest and understanding in Neighbourhood Policing and community safety issues
- An ability to interact positively and sensitively with adults from hard-to-reach vulnerable groups
- Good inter-personal skills and the ability to work and relate well with others at all levels, in a team and with partners
- Well developed communication skills particularly in the field of public speaking at all ability levels
- A high level of self-motivation, the ability to set priorities and manage time effectively, working with the minimum of supervision.
- Must be able to drive a car and be willing to use their car for work County wide.
