The Role

To provide skilled technical support to all Officers and Staff in the Force and in particular to Control staff, in matters relating to CCTV operation and its application in active incidents. To also provide reactive and proactive monitoring and control of Public Space CCTV cameras to identify criminal and anti-social behaviour, assisting to direct resources as necessary and working within the Controller Team providing this function.

Key Responsibilities

A permanent position has arisen for a CCTV Operator within the Force Contract, Command and Control Department at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes. Joining a busy team you will be required to provide reactive and proactive monitoring and control of Public space CCTV cameras operated by Sussex Police. Monitoring Police Airwave radio transmissions you will be instrumental to helping Police Officers and Control Room Staff in identifying potential incidents and gathering intelligence and evidence. You will be working shifts (including weekends and Bank Holidays) to ensure CCTV cover 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Working a mixture of day and night shifts you will have 4 consecutive days off every 6 days and be entitled to shift allowance.

Skills & Experience

The role of CCTV Operator involves:-

  • Monitoring CCTV cameras, producing the highest quality video evidence and gathering intelligence in support of Force and Departmental priorities.
  • Maintaining an auditable process to support video evidence production
  • Providing precise information to support incident command and control
  • Dealing with CCTV related enquiries from Police Officers and members of staff.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a professional approach, be enthusiastic, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be required to evidence the following:

  • Demonstrate effective communication; specifically oral and listening skills
  • The ability to multi task and work proactively is essential.
  • The capacity to work in a pressurised environment

Knowledge of CCTV operation, Storm and Airwave would be desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Further Information

The core shift pattern for this role is 2 earlies (07:00 - 17:00), 2 lates (15:00 - 01:00) and 2 nights (23:00 - 07:00). Due to the nature of the shift pattern for this role the salary will be subject to additional unsocial hours payments.
