The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role

Do you enjoy working in a fast pace environment, are well organized then working within the CCTV department could be the role for you.

In this fast-paced exciting and rewarding role, you and your fellow team members will have responsibility for operating, monitoring and managing the CCTV cameras. This includes managing a wide range of incidents and dealing appropriately.

This role requires you to juggle and prioritise competing demands. You will be part of a closely knit team dealing with internal and external stakeholders.

You need to have the ability to think quickly and work under pressure as you'll often be required to adapt quickly to changing demands. It's a fast paced and exciting role that offers you the ability to make a difference and be part of our team.


As a CCTV Operator you will play an essential role in making sure we are there when people need us.

1 year fixed contract

Salary plus shift allowance – which will be confirmed once an offer of employment is made

Location: Guildford

Key Responsibilities

To gather intelligence and submit intelligence reports as required.

To communicate with the Force Control Room via radio to inform them of incidents, and situations that require deployment.

To use Force databases in order to maintain an up to date picture of current intelligence and incidents as well as logging the production, storage and movement of any CCTV data collected.

Ensure that current knowledge of both Force and local Priorities and Force Policies and Procedures are maintained in order to deliver an effective service to internal and external contacts.

Review CCTV material, and ensure that the material produced is of evidential standard.

To attend court and give evidence when necessary.

Carry out additional general administrative tasks such as procedural development during downtime in order to support an efficient service to the department.

To assist in the training of personnel in the use of the CCTV system.

Skills & Experience

An understanding of, or experience in, working within a CCTV environment, the police or wider criminal justice sector would be beneficial.

To be able to assimilate facts and events quickly, and make decisions to provide best evidence. To be able to obtain a good understanding of the evidence gathering process and the need for continuity of evidence.

To be strongly self-motivated, and be able to work unsupervised, and able to achieve set objectives, including, for example, those connected with initiating arrests and intelligence gathering.

A working knowledge of Microsoft or windows based packages and can demonstrate the ability to learn and use a variety of computer systems.

To have the ability to satisfactorily complete the training on the CCTV equipment and procedures and has the ability to develop skills for new technology.

Excellent verbal communication skills, to be able to communicate with both internal and external stake holders and deal assertively and courteously with all enquiries.

A knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace, in particular with regard to electrical hazards.

Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate documents and reports.

The ability to work unsupervised and be able to use own initiative to solve problems, take reasoned and responsible decisions that consider all relevant facts, and information, based on the law, and Force policy.

The ability to prioritise issues under pressure, take control and respond promptly to changing situations.

The ability to work as part of a team, supporting other team members with their enquiries and problem solving.

Must have a full driving licence and access to transport in order to be able to travel extensively within the Surrey Police area in conjunction with their responsibilities.

The ability to interpret and identify unusual behaviour i.e aggressive non-verbal communication.

Experience of prioritising conflicting demands and responding appropriately.

Ability to work with minimum supervision.

It is desirable that the post holder has :- Knowledge of legal and evidential requirements to comply with Crown Prosecution Service and courts.

Knowledge of the data protection act and the Surveillance commissioner’s code of practice.
