Vacancy Information

Surrey Police and Sussex Police are inviting applications for the challenging and rewarding roles of Assistant Chief Constables to join a vibrant and energetic leadership team. We have up to four vacancies across both forces covering local policing, operations and specialist crime.

From your first day with us you will be part of our policing family, making a real difference keeping Surrey and Sussex safe.

Surrey Police and Sussex Police are recognised nationally as two progressive forces, with an exceptionally strong partnership and passion for exceptional public service. With a long history, and strong track record of collaboration, our forces are working closely together on a whole range of key operational and support functions.

The confidence of the public is fundamental to everything that Surrey Police and Sussex Police do in order to deliver an effective policing model. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, catch criminals, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe. We are committed to ensuring we better understand the composition of our communities. Having a truly diverse workforce that reflects those communities enhances our abilities to tackle crimes that affect them. We are looking for ACCs who can bring difference to the team, and individuals who share our joint ambition for more preventative and proactive policing.

The Role

What you’ll be doing

Please refer to the job profile found in the attached ACC Recruitment Candidate Pack for full details of the role. If successful, you will be responsible for one of our major organisational portfolios, while implementing the force vision and strategy.

Both forces work hard to maintain very high levels of public confidence in policing and low risk of victimisation. In what are challenging times for all public sector organisations, with operational pressures and a continuing requirement to make efficiency savings, we want to ensure that our forces continue providing the best possible services to the public. This is not an easy challenge, but if you are ready to develop teams through a period of change, motivate and inspire those around you and bring a different perspective to our organisations, then this could be the job for you.

Skills & Experience

What skills you’ll need

We are looking for leaders with a proven track record of operational delivery, combined with an open, inclusive and collaborative approach. If you thrive on engaging with communities, partner organisations, officers, staff and volunteers, then you will enjoy being part of our team. You will be given responsibility to lead exciting change programmes to release the full potential of our people and our technology.

Both forces value leaders who will constructively challenge and work together for the good of the public in Surrey and Sussex. Operating with integrity, passion and commitment is important as well as demonstrating how you can bring difference and diversity of thinking to the team.

If these opportunities sound like they would interest you and you want to make a difference, then we would really welcome your applications.

We are proud to have good gender diversity at Chief Officer level across both our forces, but we recognise that diversity is much broader than gender. Whilst ethnic diversity is improving in both forces, we are particularly keen to use this opportunity to increase the ethnic and cultural diversity of those working at the executive level and better represent the communities we serve.
