Key Responsibilities
The force wide role includes pursing the highest standards of professional behaviour, identifying and mitigating threats to the integrity of the organisation, and preventing and detecting misconduct or corrupt practice within Sussex Police.
The team investigates allegations of corruption, including; the developing and handling of sensitive intelligence either through source handling techniques or traditional intelligence gathering; protecting of the Force’s information assets; performing a liaison role with other divisions, departments and Police Forces; where justified by the degree of intelligence, the support and deployment of covert policing techniques to develop intelligence/evidence to a standard in order to enable criminal or misconduct prosecutions/procedures to be instigated.
The successful applicant will lead a team made up of experienced investigators, intelligence development officers, analyst, researcher and auditor. The team has recently benefited from uplift of investigators, yet to be appointed, which the successful candidate will be instrumental in the development.
Skills & Experience
This is an operational role and candidates must hold a current PST certificate and passed the Fitness Test. Applicants must be substantive Sergeants or Detective Sergeants, with the highest levels of professional and personal integrity, and have recent experience of;
• effective leadership and team management.
• leading proactive or intelligence investigations.
• Leading serious and complex investigations.
• Intelligence lead policing including the supervision and deployment of covert tactics to support investigations and intelligence development.
• a sound working knowledge of RIPA / Disclosure.
It would be advantageous for applicants to have source handling experience, and be qualified as Level 3 (Advanced) CHIS Handler.
