The Role

This is an exciting administration role supporting Safeguarding Investigations Unit (SIU) within Public Protection.

We have 10 vacancies to fill in our SIU offices across Sussex.

The SIU offices are based at Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Crawley and Littlehampton. Please make it clear in your application which sites you would be able to work from.

The starting salary is £21,399 with yearly increments up to a maximum of £23,331.

Key Responsibilities

As an Administrative Support Assistant (ASA) you will work in small teams to provide efficient and timely administration to colleagues carrying out investigations in the Safeguarding Investigation Unit (SIU), in order to maintain the effective management of Criminal Investigations and prosecutions within the force.

You will be expected to prioritise a variety of administrative tasks generated by individual investigating officers. You’ll get the chance to work in a busy office environment with people in different roles and with varying responsibilities.

The role will give you experience in carrying out a variety of tasks using different systems to prepare evidential exhibits and management reports. This, along with our willingness to support your personal and professional development, should make this a great entry level position if you are looking at a career in crime investigations or want to further develop your administrative skills.

We are looking for team players willing to contribute to helping us improve our service in a relatively new role which will develop with the growing and changing demands taking place within the policing and criminal justice services.

Skills & Experience

Good organisational and prioritisation skills and strong attention to detail are key to this role including the ability to respond to correspondence and deal with colleagues in a professional and courteous manner.

You’ll need to be able to learn and use different file editing systems in order to prepare evidence which is fit and relevant for court exhibits.

The world of safeguarding investigations is a pressurised environment so it is essential you can work well under pressure and have the ability to prioritise workloads to ensure strict timescales are met.

You will need to have personal resilience in dealing with material of a sensitive and/or distressing nature.

You will need to have a GCSE (or equivalent) in both maths and English at grade 4/C or above and will be proficient in all Microsoft applications including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Adobe.

Ideally you will have a background in quality assuring documents as well as having knowledge and experience in the management of confidential and personal information to ensure data privacy.
